Loving Stripes!

Item: Shower curtain
Cost:$14.99

I looked at shower curtains for months. Seriously. I am apparently ultra picky when it comes to shower curtains, and I can’t blame myself. Most of them cost at least $50! The only criteria I had in mind were stripes. I fell in love with a friend’s bathroom that was all stripes. So I went on my hunt. After a few months of looking, I found this beautiful shower curtain at Bed, Bath & Beyond. And get this: it was on the clearance rack! =) $14.99 because it had been the floor model. But it’s in perfect shape and I love it today as much as the day I bought it.

DVD Baskets

Item: Baskets
Cost: ~$10.00

When I ran out of DVD storage I went looking for attractive and inexpensive media racks. But the price tags left me dumbfounded. So I came up with a little bit different way of storing my overflow of DVDs. These baskets from A.C. Moore (on clearance!) are hung on the wall with picture nails and the circles behind them are placemats from Target. It’s inventive and a little unusual, but I get a lot of compliments =). Dish Storage

Item: Ikea bookcase
Cost: $99.99

When I moved into a small apartment with a tiny kitchen, there was barely enough room for storing food in the cabinets. My creative solution was to put my dishes in this Ikea bookcase on the half-wall between the kitchen and living room. Sure, the dishes are technically in the living room, but I’ve gotten so many compliments on my arrangement!

Haitian Statue

Item: Soapstone Statue

Cost: 600 Gourdes (abt $14 for both)

This soapstone statue comes straight from Haiti—I know because that’s where I found it. I was searching for some classic Haitian art to bring home when I found this one and its sister for sale by a street vendor. I snatched up both pieces and keep one on my desk at work and the other on my dresser at home.

I’m loving them! My only caution: soapstone is fragile. Traveling with them isn’t easy.
