Alright ladies, it’s time to face the giants…er, the cosmetic drawer. For most of us, over time, that particular drawer becomes such a mess that it’s hard to even look in it. But we’re going to change all that.

Wearing bamboo

Items: Bamboo clothes
Cost: under $25

I’m sure you can tell by now that I love anything bamboo. For one thing, it is one of our world’s most renewable resources, for another it’s simply a fascinating material! The first time I saw a pair of socks made with bamboo and aloe, I was intrigued and had to buy a pair (3 actually). It is some of the softest fabric you can imagine.

I still love the socks and I am most definitely interested in purchasing more organic clothing, especially bamboo. Organic clothing in general is not the cheapest clothing available. But I found a few decent deals online, and I’m sure there are more to be had. Do a google search and be sure to check any sale and clearance items. Read the rest of this entry »

Bamboo curtain rods

Item: Bamboo curtain rod
Cost: $25, $9, or FREE!

When I first saw this picture, I loved it. Of course, I’m in the process of searching for affordable window treatments right now and I’m finding that it isn’t easy! Also, I love things that are natural, like bamboo, and my husband likes anything tropical or “islandy” as he calls it. As an added bonus, bamboo is one of earth’s most renewable resources (it can grow more than a foot a day in parts of China!).

So here’s what I discovered. An average bamboo curtain rod can cost $60, but if you look online at places like The Natural Abode you can find a much more affordable price of $24.50 for 6 feet. Or, if you look a little harder, you can find places like Anything Bamboo and pay $9 for 10 feet. Of course, if you’re really lucky, you can head out back and cut one down for free! (Just add a little varnish and you’re good to go.)
