Get Organized: A simple step

Use file folder labels as cord tags to get your home more organized.

Cost: Less than $5
Item: File Folder Labels (in pretty colors!)

Everyone has had to deal with the craziness of “cord-land” behind their computer desk or entertainment center. This is a fast, efficient way to get yourself started on being more organized.

Take small, brightly colored file folder labels and use them to tag your cords. Just like in the picture, you can wrap the label around the end of the cord (near the plug) and use a permanent marker to write which cord it is. The next time you have a problem in “cord-land” you’ll know just where to start fixing it without having to tug on various cords and potentially do even more damage to your system.

Tip: For even more organized cords, use zip ties to keep cords in place and untangled.

Get started organizing your life with a glove compartment organizer.

Item: Expanding file wallet
Cost: $5-$10

Part of creating a great living space to relax and rejuvinate in is getting that space organized. But getting organized can be a huge task; I know it is for me.

I have found that the best way to approach it is by taking baby-steps. This was one of the first steps that I took to organize my life. It helped make things a little simpler, and it really isn’t that hard! Just go out and buy an expanding file wallet, either at your local office supply store or online. They aren’t very expensive.

Then take a few minutes to sit in your car and dare to open that overflowing glove compartment. Sift through everything you find. Old receipts can be thrown away, clean napkins can bet stacked neatly, and your registration, insurance info, even warranties can be stored neatly in your new file wallet. That way, you’ll always know where everything is. Read the rest of this entry »

Item: Baskets
Cost: ~$10.00

When I ran out of DVD storage I went looking for attractive and inexpensive media racks. But the price tags left me dumbfounded. So I came up with a little bit different way of storing my overflow of DVDs. These baskets from A.C. Moore (on clearance!) are hung on the wall with picture nails and the circles behind them are placemats from Target. It’s inventive and a little unusual, but I get a lot of compliments =). Dish Storage

Item: Ikea bookcase
Cost: $99.99

When I moved into a small apartment with a tiny kitchen, there was barely enough room for storing food in the cabinets. My creative solution was to put my dishes in this Ikea bookcase on the half-wall between the kitchen and living room. Sure, the dishes are technically in the living room, but I’ve gotten so many compliments on my arrangement!
